Trip to the Fishing Village

Hi everyone! Guess what today's field trip was about?
Today, we went to visit a fishing village along the border of South Vietnam that draws the line between Cambodia and Vietnam.A particular group of people called the Champas reside in this village and mainly fish for a living.

Visiting the village allowed us to take a look and capture images on the type of infrastructure in the fishing village and the cultural values and traditional trade businesses that the fishing villagers engage in.

After breakfast, we departed the hotel by bus followed by taking a short boat ride to the fishing village. We returned back to the hotel for lunch and then went on to visit some temples within the hotel vicinity. Following that, we made our way to Ha Tien City to continue with the next leg of our field trip.

So that's all for now folks! Let us leave you with some photos of the day for your viewing pleasure!
Stay tuned for tomorrow's field trip update!

A day out at the farm!

Hello everyone! Guess what? It is day 7 already!
Today's main highlight was the trip down to the paddy fields and farm.
After a long bus journey, we finally reached our destination.

Here's a photo of a farmer on the left and our guide on the right.
The farmer was teaching us about the 4 steps of the farming process on planting rice.
After the short briefing, we were all ready to be farmers.

It was a wonderful morning with blue skies and white clouds overcast .

Getting ready to enter the paddy field bare footed to plant rice!

Observing the farmer's demonstration.

Trying it ourselves with Nguyen Huu Canh College students.

Busy at work. It is no surprise that most of the Sp students are first timers.

Check out Lydia the farmer:)

As well as Jian Hui, the farmer!

It's lunch time! Look at all of our satisfied faces after a sumptuous meal.

Say hi to some Nguyen Huu Canh College students chilling by the shade!

The "waterboys" doing oppa gangnam style right here in Vietnam!

Through today's field trip, we came to understand the pains of a farmer and how much hard work it takes to successfully harvest their rice crops. Rice is the staple diet for many of us and the primary source of income for the farmers. Hence, we have learnt to treasure and appreciate rice and the farmer's efforts more. This trip was a real eye-opener for many of us as such paddy fields are not common in Singapore for us to carry out rice cultivation. Here's a group photo to end off this post. Updates of our following field trips will be coming up soon!

Special Sunday Highlight -Visit To Long Hoa Orphanage

Hi everyone!

This time, we are back with a special highlight on a splendid Sunday spent at Long Hoa Orphanage.
This visit was a significant part of our short 13 days trip in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City.

Our visit brought with us a number of consumable goods, which will be used to feed the residents that call the orphanage their home. The donated necessities were raised through means of fund raising, which was conducted by the SP Team, as well as through various charitable organizations and individuals.

We're happy to announce that the SP Team managed to bring along 1.5 tonnes of rice, as well as 60 boxes of noodles.

Our group photo taken together with the Master, Mr How (our translator) and the consumable goods.

Fun Fact - Did You Know?
To ensure its sustainability, Long Hoa Orphanage produces its own drinking water supply
and sells them to various distributors.

After a long day, it was time to bid farewell to the Long Hoa Orphanage.
Here's our final group photo of the day!

Overall, the entire team felt that this trip has been very meaningful for us. From our interaction with the children, we have learnt that we should be appreciative and grateful for what we have back home. We would also like to send a huge thank you to the ever helpful Nguyen Huu Canh College students for helping us with facilitating this event. :)

We hope that these moments we spent together with the children will last us all a lifetime.

More updates will be put up soon!

Day 2 in Vietnam :)

Hello once again everybody!

Let us update you on what happened on our second day here in Vietnam!

Upon our arrival, the Nguyen Huu Canh (NHC) College welcomed us with a grand opening ceremony. There were numerous performances put up by the college students to entertain us. The college principal also prepared a speech to welcome the SP Team.

Following that, it was time for us to interact with the students themselves. After a successful get-to-know session, new friendships were forged.

Then it was time to get down to work. We were tasked to form a mindmap from several themes related to the Vietnamese lifestyle and culture. After the discussion, each group had to present about their chosen theme. Following a day of work, we finally ended off our day with yummy dinner!

So, let the pictures do the talking now! :D
